today, things and stuff are both awesome.
like that show we're playing next week. and the fact that we're going on tour with the shins. and the fact that my friend, DJ kitty from KALX, is going to be opening a bar 6 blocks from my house this year. i went to the public hearing at the emeryville town hall yesterday and spoke in favor of their establishment. there was some opposition from some busy body anti-everything types, but ultimately it was approved unanimously. a veritable slam dunk. next step is to get it past the city council on may 18th. stay tuned.
also awesome was the britt daniel, of spoon, solo show at the hotel utah on monday. he rocked. old hits, requests, a kinks cover, and some great new songs. i was thrilled to sing harmony with him on "lines in the suit". can't you tell from the
picture?
also, here is a picture of my cool new scar.
love,
gg
i totally got picked for jury duty.
2 weeks at least, starting monday. 9:30-4:30 with 1.5 hour lunches and fridays off. not too shabby. don't ask me about the case, cuz i can't talk about it.
i'm doin' my friggin civic duty.
in other news, my bicycle scar is healing well. i'll get a picture up soon, but for now, you can look at this pic of me & pat.
see?
it's from a photo shoot we did for the bike to work day show we are playing on may 20.
also, our show with TV on the Radio on April 28 @ Bottom of the Hill is sold out. They added an early show, but I don't know yet if we're playing it or not.
otherwise you might have to head to LA to see the show for 2 nites at the echo on the 29th & 30th. You're going to be in so cal anyway for Coachella aren't you?
and that is all i can think of for now.
i am going to try to blog more frequently now that i will have more free time thanks to the U.S. government.
love,
gg
kelley stoltz is the best bay area band as far as i am concerned.
what a performer. microphone crooner, stand up comic, dancin' fool, alt rocker, folk singer...
it's like he's channeling ian mculloch and neil diamond at the same time.
his whole band just rips. garth steel klippert on wurli and all kinds of crazy effects whirling in the air from that guy on the left side of the stage. i was freaking out.
the drummer rules. people were dancing, i was dancing! it ruled!
then kelley came back out by himself with an acoustic and did a harry nilsson song and i thought was gonna cry.
i am in love,
gg
OK, so as soon as i put my comments section up, i get one from a high school friend, who now goes by "sally" pretending to be this girl who shoved my head into the water fountain in high school and cut my lip open pretty good. the scar finally went away a few years ago. you can read about it here, it's pretty funny in retrospect. i do think that being persecuted in jr & sr high helps you become a stronger person who is less worried about what other people think as an adult.
it worked for me. well, that and some therapy. you probably would have made fun of me too.
see?
this chubby heavy metal kid (they called themselves freaks), galen, used to be beat me up all the time in middle school, but then sometimes he'd be nice to me for a while and then all the sudden he'd beat me up again.
it was heck. he was the only person i wished death on in 7th grade. and then he died (rumored to be decapitated under a semi trailer) in a drunken motorcycle accident that summer and i felt so bad. even though deep down i knew then, as i am sure of now, that you can't wish bad things on people and make them happen. at least not without a doll, or a potion, or some feathers or something. but you still shouldn't wish bad things on people, it's just not nice.
now i just feel sad for him cuz i am sure there were a ton of reasons he was so troubled, probably most of them stemming from his home.
on to better things:
terri and jason had their baby this week, a boy named felix. i am sure he is the cutest thing i have ever seen. she and all of her family are in my thoughts today and have all my love.
see you tonite @ GAMH,
gg
i did it! i figured out how to add a comments section to this here thingee so now my blog can be more like my blogger hero ajax's .
i also memorized the html to do links.
now you can tell me how you really feel about my bloggings.
go ahead, i dare you, someone leave me a comment!

i was at modest mouse last nite at the fillmore with some good friends of mine and it hit me harder than ever that i have wanted to play music for a living for as long as i can remember. i suppose i couldn't articulate it in elementary school, but the feeling was already there. that feeling rises in me when i watch a performer work with the audience, and when i high five a stranger becuz the band is playing our favorite song.
point is, modest mouse rocks and they deserve everything they've gotten. the line up on this tour is certainly a force to be reckoned with.
their new single 'Float on' is my favorite song lately, watch the VIDEO.
the kids love them, and it makes me happy that when i turn on LIVE 105. (which i never used to do) i am as likely to hear the shins or modest mouse as incubus or311.
speaking of the good old shindersons...
i am ecstatic to announce that rogue wave is going on tour with the shins
ECSTATIC!!!!
check tour dates at our new booking agency, inland empire
and before that, we are playing with TV on the Radio on April 28 @ bottom of the hill and April 29/30 @ the echo in LA.
TV on the Radio are so HOTT right now. like seriously.
it is good times for all. i love it.
if anyone has been following my posts for a while, you might recall that last march
i said i wouldn't be in the same career by the time my next birthday comes around.
well, i have a month to go and i have to say that 3 weeks touring with the shins is pretty darn close to a different career. the groundwork is laid at least.
much love,
gram
